I’m a winnah! Plus: Wedcomp

Woot!  The results of the ISPWP Fall ‘08 contest are in and a few of my images placed in the top 20!  As a matter of fact, my images did so well that out of all the talented ISPWP photographers throughout the US that submitted to the contest, I placed 15th overall.  Go check out the lovely images through the link I posted above.

As a little taste, this image from Andrea and Peter’s wedding placed first in creative use of wide angle:

Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth, MA

Entering contests is a great way to get some name recognition and keep the spirit of competitiveness alive, which pushes me to constantly produce kickass images.  This January I will be entering a few pictures into the Wedcomp competition once more.  Once again they’ve lined up some of the best photographers as judges: Rachel LaCour Niesen, Cliff Mautner, Jennifer Bebb and Zack Arias.  Wish me luck!

Erin & Graham

Erin and Graham did the whole shebang in Cohasset: they got ready at the Cohasset Harbor Resort, were married at First Parish and had their reception at Atlantica.  Here’s a sneak peek!

The bridesmaids protect Erin from view as the last of the guests walk into the Church

The bridal party lines up shortly before being introduced.

The father-daughter dance started as normal, and then the dj put on Sugar Hill Gang’s “Apache (Jump On It).” Awwwww yeah.

I wish I could do the worm. Graham totally rocked it.

Meaghan & Damon

Meaghan & Damon were married at Hartman’s Herb Farm, in Barre, MA. Here are a bunch of my favorite images!

Meg’s shoes. Sparkle = cool.

A last-minute review of her vows. Meg and Damon wrote their own.

Tissues at the ready in case there are tears.

The rings change hands.

Velveteen rabbits!

Their dog thought shooting formals was boring and Damon had to wrangle him back.

Meg and Damon react to the rather loud snort of the pig and bleat of the sheep!

Brattle Art House Auction

Brattle Art Auction

I’ve always enjoyed going to see movies, but when I moved to Boston 11 years ago I became obsessed with film, largely due to the Brattle.  The Brattle is an independent movie theatre that shows old movies as well as independent and foreign films.  Once I saw Welles, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Kurosawa and the like on the big screen it became a major influence on my art.  I even contemplated doing a double major of film and photography at art school, but in the end I chose to focus on the latter so that I could get some sleep once in a while.  Both majors were demanding enough on their own.

So what does the previous long-winded paragraph have to do with the image above?   The Longy School of Music is hosting a silent art auction to benefit the Brattle on Sunday, September 28.  Two of my photographs were accepted to be in the auction, and I’m happy to give back to such an important institution.  More information is here.  These are the two photographs that are being auctioned:

Duomo was taken in Sienna, Italy. It is a 20″x30″ print.

517 was taken on a trip to Philadelphia. It is an 11″x14″ print.

Elise & Andrea

Whew, I’ve been catching up with blogging about my recent work, so here’s another post! Elise and Andrea were married at the Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, CT. It was a glorious day.

Elise welcomes her guests.

Apparently an alarm went off at the house across the street from the winery. You KNOW it’s a good wedding if the cops show up!

Nhi-Ha and Jeff

•September 11, 2008 • 3 Comments

Stay with me- this is a long post! Nhi-Ha and Jeff were married at the Pierce House in Lincoln, MA. They hired me for 2 days, the first of which was a Vietnamese gift ceremony. Here are the shots!

The following day was the other ceremony, a veritable “shindig” if you will. Here Jeff helps Nhi-Ha with her rockin’ red shoes.

Nope, I didn’t touch those shoes. I found them on the branch and shot ‘em as is!

The food was delicious. Big props to East Coast Grill!

Cake? Nah. They prefer ice cream!

Joey Scott and the Connection kept the party moving!

Kerin and Nick were married at St. John’s Chrysostom Parish in West Roxbury, with a reception at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood. Here’s a sneak preview!

Emotions ran high during the toasts.

Andrea & Peter

Andrea and Peter got ready at the Clarion Hotel in Hull, with the Reception at Immaculate Conception in Weymouth and the reception at the Atlantica in Cohasset. Arr matey, here be a few pictures:

Andrea gets her beach pail favors from the hotel.

She wore these red shoes with her wedding dress. They’re stylin’.

Andrea waits for Peter. They wanted to see each other before the ceremony.

We shot a few formals before the ceremony. Here’s a Polaroid:

This Church rocked my socks!

After the ceremony I was driving towards the Atlantica when I saw this in a baseball field and I knew I had to get ‘em out here for a shot!

Andrea and her dad make faces at yours truly.

End of the night!
